Not sure which grade?

Choose 1/8″ Garden if you…

Choose 1/16″ Premium if you…

Mix potting soil, start seeds, grow indoors, or need a smooth, even finish that blends cleanly. Built for detail and premium presentation.

Our process

From market leftovers to living castings

Real feedstock. Real chopping. Real hot composting — then worms and careful sifting. Here’s how EarthRise turns local organics into castings you can trust.

Cardboard boxes of peppers, squash, greens, grapes, and coffee grounds collected from a farmers market1

Feedstock from the farmers market

Collect local feedstock

We gather fresh produce, greens, and coffee grounds from farmers at the market — clean, food-grade organics with a known story, not mystery waste.

Make the compost salad

We chop and mix a balanced “compost salad” — greens, fruit, and other organics cut fine so heat builds evenly and biology can work fast.

Hot composting in closed vessels

Hot compost until finished

That salad goes into closed, insulated systems for hot composting — microbe-driven heat cooks the material clean and stable before it feeds our worm systems.

Finished worm castings ready for the garden4

Premium & garden-grade castings

Worm castings, sifted to grade

Finished vermicast is hand- or machine-sifted to 1/16″ premium or 1/8″ garden grade, then bagged or bulked so biology is still awake when it reaches your plants.

Our story

From Valley markets to your backyard beds.

EarthRise began with a simple frustration: bagged amendments that looked rich in the store and went lifeless by summer. We started composting for neighbors, then building castings for growers who wanted biology — not dust and fillers.

Today in the Sacramento Valley we collect clean feedstock from farmers markets, hot-compost it in closed vessels, finish it with worms, and sift to two grades: premium 1/16″ and garden 1/8″.

Whether you start seeds, fill containers, or top-dress beds, the goal is the same: castings that rise with every season.

Growers say

Trusted by home gardens and nurseries alike.

We top-dressed our raised beds with EarthRise castings. Everything from tomatoes to cut flowers took off — and the soil stayed soft and alive.

The fine 1/16″ castings mix cleanly into our potting blends. Customers notice transplant vigor — we noticed fewer callbacks.

Consistent, dark, and full of life. We use the 1/8″ grade as a top-dress on orchard rows every season.
